The SHM Pee Dee Chapter will be hosting an in-person event on Tuesday, May 21st at 6:00 p.m. ET at Hilton Columbia Center in Columbia, SC. Please join the chapter for networking during the cocktail reception from 6:00-7:00 and then to delve into the complexities of seizures as Dr. Ramit Singla offers an engaging lecture titled, "Optimizing Antiseizure Medication Management: Strategies for Effective Treatment and Monitoring".
Objectives:
1. To review the pharmacological options for the treatment of seizures, including first-line and adjunctive antiseizure medications (AEDs).
2. To discuss the common side effects associated with AEDs and strategies for minimizing their impact on patient quality of life.
3. To outline the management approach for status epilepticus, including the use of first-line and second-line AEDs, as well as non-pharmacological interventions.
4. To provide guidance on when to monitor serum levels of AEDs and interpret these levels in clinical practice.
5. To briefly introduce psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES), including clinical features and diagnostic considerations, to facilitate differentiation from epileptic seizures.
Dr. Ramit Singla is the Stroke Medical Director at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Downtown in Columbia, SC. Also serving as a Neuro-Hospitalist, Dr. Singla holds Affiliate Assistant Professor roles in Neurology, Pediatric Neurology, and Pediatrics at MUSC in Charleston, SC.
