TWO DAY KUKSA CARVING CLASS WITH ALEX YERKS
INCLUDES CAMPING AND ALL MEALS PROVIDED
This two day workshop with Alex Yerks will find you immersed in making your own hand carved kuksa. The kuksa is an old-style wooden cup made to travel far and wide and be at the ready, whether the beverage of choice is water from a crystal creek, your favourite coffee, or even a splash of something stronger.
Over two days, you learn to shape freshly harvested wood into a one-of-a-kind vessel from a master kuksa carver. Alex will show you how to use traditional tools like axes, adzes, gouges, hook tools, and, of course, the versatile sloyd knife. By crafting a kuksa, which is more than a spoon but less than a bowl, you will engage in a wide array of techniques and tool usage that bridges the gap between spoon carving and bowl carving.

Ticket price does not include entry to the Spoon Jam weekend.
This year's Spoon Jam and pre-Jam workshops has all meals provided (breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner) and BYO camping included in the ticket price, so all you need to do is camp, carve and eat, and we'll take care of the rest! If camping isn't your cup of tea, there are glamping bell tents with real beds and rooms at the homestead available directly through the Cuppacumbalong Homestead.
ABOUT ALEX
Alexander Yerks, wood carver, photographer, and singer songwriter comes from deep in the forest near Woodstock in the Catskills Mountains, New York.
A Northeast native, Alex was born and raised on a mountain in Upstate New York and grew up wandering around the surrounding woods. Alex quickly learned to conjure up things he needed - instead of hopping in the truck, and driving miles to buy things for the home.
Brought up to rely on his natural surroundings, he instinctively works with the natural resources of the forest, utilising the unique qualities of each tree in his projects.
Utensils and cups have always been the focus of his craft, creating functional and beautiful pieces with the capacity to enrich our lives and our homes. If you follow Alex on Instagram, you will be familiar with his fantastic and much copied style of spoons and kuksas. Fitting the bill of what makes an awesome carver (a fantastic designer, craftsman and teacher), we are really very excited about setting him loose on our native timbers.

Sales for Spoon Jam pre-fest tickets are used to pay for the costs of running the event, in particular the cost of flying in our awesome overseas teachers. For this reason, tickets for Spoon Jam pre-fest tickets are non-refundable.
If you are aware you will be unable to attend, you may pass your ticket to someone else you wish to come in your place. If there is a waiting list at the time of your cancellation we will pass this onto you to enable the transfer of your ticket. Organising the ticket transfer is the responsibility of the person cancelling their booking.
In the event that you do not turn up a pre-fest workshop, the ticket is non-transferable to another person or date after the event.
By booking a ticket to any of the Spoon Jam pre-fest workshops, you agree to all of the above.
