This project exemplifies elevating excellence-- NAU faculty and students are working with Habitat for Humanity on climate innovation through the 10X Clean Cooling Student Competition hosted by ASU. The student team, having advanced to the finals, will be pitching for the Grand Prize!
Dr. Alexander Shenkin is the NAU faculty lead for this innovative design team. Right now, their submission is also competing for the $10K People’s Choice award through online voting February 5 – March 19, 2024.
It would be great if the Lumberjack community could show strong support for this project. They are competing against some very strong teams from across the country. If they win the juried competition, they will receive $75k to prototype the solution and Habitat for Humanity will receive $50k to implement the solution.
“Project SmartFan aims to drastically reduce energy use for heating and cooling homes with super simple but smart technology developed by faculty and students at Northern Arizona University. Can you guess what it is? That's right. A fan. But a smart one! And super accessible for underserved communities. We'll install prototypes in 40 Habitat for Humanity of Northern Arizona homes with the help of Jim Varney and Product Insight, Inc. if we win, and that's just for starters. Check out the team and vote before March 19th for the people’s choice award here!
