H. G. Wells is one of the most creative, influential, and prolific writers and thinkers in both modern science fiction and modern futures studies. Author of over 120 fiction and non-fiction books, he wrote on human and natural history; evolution and life; politics, society, education, and economics; time travel, alien invasion, alien societies, biotechnology, and space travel; future war and atomic weaponry; numerous dystopias and utopias; and the future evolution of humanity. In this webinar, devoted entirely to Wells, we will examine the evolution of his philosophy and seminal publications from his youth (such as, “The Man of the Year Million” and “Human Evolution, An Artificial Process”); through his early great science fiction novels (including The Time Machine, The Island of Dr. Moreau, and The War of the Worlds); his groundbreaking futurist writings (notably The Discovery of the Future, Anticipations, and The Open Conspiracy); and his later utopian and dystopian narratives and speculations (among them, The Food of the Gods, The War in the Air, The Sleeper Awakes, and The Shape of Things to Come).
