With unmistakable clarity, Jesus gave the church its mission: “Go and make disciples of all nations.” But the question that begs to be answered is HOW? This seminar will allow you to experience a simple, yet profound way to grow and reproduce disciples through an organic movement of multiplying “micro groups.” The DNA contained in micro groups makes for accelerated transformation and equips the participants to become disciple-makers as well.
We promise that by the end of the seminar, you will have practiced an easily reproducible disciple- making method.

The goal of this course is to help you devise an intentional disciple-making plan based upon Jesus’ and Paul’s model for making disciples, and in response to Jesus’s stated mission for the church: “Go and make disciples. . . .” Key elements of this plan will be derived from Jesus’ definition of a disciple, both Jesus and Paul’s model for how disciples are made, and reflection on core ingredients necessary for growing a church or ministry-based approach to making disciples.
Course Objectives
Upon the successful completion of this course, you should be able to:
1.Establish a theology of disciple-making that addresses the question “What is the biblical standard of discipleship?” with a focus on what disciple, discipleship, and discipling mean.
2.Identify and assess the causes that divert us from disciple-making as the primary mission of the church.
3.Use Jesus’ and Paul’s relational approach to making disciples as a basis for your own strategy.
4.Devise a workable, reproducible strategy for disciple-making, specific to your context.
5.Experience and examine why micro-groups (triads/quads) embody the optimum transformative
environment to grow reproducing disciples.
About the Instructor
has recently “retired” or better yet “redeployed” (as of March, 2012) from professional church leadership. He now lives out his passion of speaking, teaching, and writing about the disciple-making mission of the church. Most recently Greg served as Executive Pastor of Discipleship at Christ Church of Oak Brook, IL. in the Chicago western suburbs. From 1998-2002, Greg held the position of Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program at Fuller Theological Seminary and Associate Professor of Lay Equipping and Discipleship. Prior to coming to Fuller, Greg enjoyed 24 years in pastoral ministry, primarily within Presbyterian churches, but most recently as Senior Pastor at the Saratoga Federated Church in the Silicon Valley, California.
He is the author of five books: Unfinished Business: Returning the Ministry to the People of God (Zondervan, 2003), Discipleship Essentials: A Guide to Building Your Life in Christ (InterVarsity Press, 1998, rereleased in 2007), Transforming Discipleship: Making Disciples a Few at a Time (Intervarsity Press, 2003); with co-author, Daniel Meyer, Leadership Essentials: Shaping Vision, Multiplying Influence, Defining Character (InterVarsity Press, 2007) and finally, The Essential Commandment: A Guide to Loving God and Others (InterVarsity Press, October, 2011). He is pleased to have been married to Lily for 43 years and has one married daughter who with her husband are practicing pediatricians in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Ogdens are now “obnoxious” grandparents to their almost 6 year granddaughter, Claire and a 3 year old grandson, Dylan. (Pictures available upon request.)
