New to a Unit event? NASW-NJ has 12 volunteer-led, county-based Units that hold regional events around the state of New Jersey for members in that area. (However due to the public health emergency, Unit events will be held virtually until further notice!) These events are planned and coordinated by an appointed volunteer Chair and Co-Chair, as well as a Regional Representative from NASW-NJ’s Board of Directors. Treating Complex Trauma Using a Parts Perspective

Description: Join Kere Loughlin-Presnal, LCSW, as she leads a workshop focusing on the treatment of complex trauma. In her work as a trauma therapist, Kere has sought to integrate client-empowering clinical approaches into her practice. Parts work allows for a non-pathologizing framework that can assist clients in moving from a place of "stuckness" to one of curiosity, self-understanding, and transformation.
The main objectives of the workshop are:
- Help to strengthen and deepen understanding of developmental/complex trauma and how it differs from classic PTSD or single-incident trauma
- Introduce the concept of a "parts perspective" and the potential benefits of incorporating a parts perspective into clinical work
- Discuss how to begin to incorporate a parts perspective in clinical work and explore a variety of clinical applications
- Discuss complementary clinical perspectives that blend well with a parts perspective (attachment theory, Polyvagal Theory, etc.)
