Where Social Work Can Lead You

Event held in partnership with NASW Minnesota Chapter.

Have you ever wondered how someone else's social work journey leads them to who they are and what they do as a social worker? Or have you looked at the profession and wondered what your future holds?

Join us and our panel of authors of the book, Where Social Work Can Lead You, for a never before seen look into the humans within the profession with stories that they so eagerly want to share.

Social Work is more than child protective services, low salaries, and challenging workplace roles. Social work as a profession is a journey that often starts with a desire to impact the lives of the most vulnerable populations.

The question is, where can social work lead you?

Free for student members of NASW. Non-members: $10.00

Virtual meeting will be sent to you in your confirmation email. If you don't receive your confirmation email, please check your spam folder.

Ray of HOPE, LLC
Jessica has been in the Human Service field for 15yrs+. Through her years of experience she became keenly aware that the only tangible tool available to fine tune is the professional. Professional development should focus on developing the person. Reflective Coaching is a tool meant to develop the professional and simultaneously the person. Reflective Coaching is utilized to encourage self-awareness in your work, deeply connect you to the “why” of your work and challenge your seen and unseen biases. Jessica uses The Reflective Coaching Path™?. The ultimate goal of Reflective Coaching is better outcomes for those served by the human service systems. Reflective Coaching intends to reach that goal by guiding the professional to self-awareness in their work and roots them with a deeper understanding of the honor it is to work with those receiving services. An honor, no matter the circumstances that brought you onto their path!

Hilary Weaver
Professor Emeritus of Social Work
University at Buffalo School of Social Work
Hilary Weaver is a social worker, educator and researcher. Her work explores how social work and other helping professions can be more responsive to culturally diverse people, with a focus on Indigenous Peoples and refugees. She views these populations through the lens of their common experience as displaced people who have often experienced trauma and are enveloped in foreign cultural contexts. Weaver has written on a variety of issues impacting Indigenous Peoples, such as social policy, health and well-being, intergenerational trauma, education, environmental justice and more. Her book projects include a volume on contemporary Native American issues viewed through the dual lenses of trauma and resilience. Weaver is Lakota and has lived much of her adult life in Haudenosaunee territory in Western New York.
