CHWA2020 coronavirus update

With great reluctance, we have decided to postpone the #CHWA2020 conference. After discussions with our Board and colleagues in a variety of organisations over the last 24 hours, and we realise that encouraging people to travel and gather may be putting our delegates and speakers in a difficult position – particularly given that many of those attending may either be vulnerable to infection themselves, or be carers or health workers.

We are working on plans to re-stage the conference at Derby Museums at a later date, and also hope to arrange a series of digital events across the coming months. (If you have booked a ticket you should have received an email from us via Eventzilla but if not please do contact us for more information.)

Since we will not be able to do this next week, we would like to publicly acknowledge the enormous help and support we have had from all of our conference partners: Derby City Council, University of Derby, Derbyshire County Council, Arts Derbyshire, Derby Museums, QUAD, Baby People, Air Arts, LENS, Antony Fisher Photography and the Royal Society for Public Health. Thank you, too, to Arts Council England for their support for our work and this conference.

Our CHWA2020 Awards are currently in the process of being judged and we will arrange for an alternative way of celebrating the shortlists and winners as soon as possible. We will make further announcements as soon as a plan is in place!

----

We are excited to announce that this year's national Culture, Health & Wellbeing Alliance conference will be held on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 March 2020 at Derby Museum. Our theme will be Care: care for one another (participants, practitioners, commissioners); care for the environment; and caring economies.

Confirmed panellists include Lord Howarth of Newport (president of the Culture, Health & Wellbeing Alliance), Esme Ward (Manchester Museums), Gregor Henderson, Public Health England, Ian Solomon-Kawall (May Project Gardens), Zena Edwards (poet/ arts activist), Daniel Regan (Freespace Gallery/Arts & Health Hub), Alistair Gentry (Unlimited), Dr Guddi Singh (paediatrician/ health campaigner/ TV broadcaster), Joy Francis (Synergi/ Words of Colour) andThanh Sinden (Museum Detox). We're thrilled that Baby People's Melisma Choir will be performing on day 1 and the Sinfonia Viva Carers' Choir on day 2.

Responding to feedback from the CHWA2019, we are planning a different kind of conference experience. The programme will feature interactive panels, rather than keynotes, and opportunities for delegates to engage in conversations around the key themes and concerns that are impacting our daily work, the sector and society as a whole.

This year we are also hosting our first CHWA awards.

The awards will focus on Climate, Collective Power and Practising Well. Working with our award partners, we aim to showcase good practice and people who are leading the way in creating a culture of care for each other, their communities and the world.

Winners will be announced at an evening event on day 1 of the conference (Thursday 19 March) and further promoted on the CHWA websites and networks.
